Salt-bleached doors, lemon trees in the courtyard, the boats coming in by mid-morning — we are gathering everyone we love on the white edge of the Aegean, and we would love for you to be there.

From the couple
A note from us
From a small kitchen in Paros —
We met on a Tuesday in February, in a Paris cooking school, both of us trying to keep a hollandaise from breaking. Iris swore (twice). Daniel laughed (once). Three years on, we are running a small kitchen of our own, and we are getting married in the courtyard of a white house that Iris's grandmother lived in as a girl.
The ceremony is short. The dinner is long. The wine is local and the lemons are from a tree we planted the summer after we got engaged, so please, eat them, slice them, save the seeds for your own gardens. Bring nothing but your appetite and a wish for the years ahead — we have everything else.
With all our love, and a small unreasonable amount of ouzo set aside specifically for you,
Iris & Daniel.

Salt air, white walls, and everyone we love
Every guest leaves something here — a memory, a toast, a wish for the long Aegean summer ahead.

Henri Laurent
— Best man · Paris, cooking school 2023
Daniel — you proposed in our kitchen, with flour on your apron, while a bouillabaisse was actively trying to reduce itself to a war crime. You knew exactly what you were doing. Iris, thank you for saying yes before he had to plate it. The bouillabaisse is fine. The man is, somehow, even better. With all my love, the best man.

Eleni Vasilakis
— Iris's grandmother · the white house, Paros
My darling Iris — when your grandfather brought me to this house in 1962, it had no roof and one lemon tree. We made it a home one summer at a time. Keep the windows open. Keep the sea on your left. Keep the table long. The rest will follow, as it did for us. Welcome him in, my love.

Margot & Pierre Bonnard
— Mother & father of the groom
From the parents of the groom — Daniel, you were a serious child who became a serious cook and then, somehow, a less serious adult, which we credit entirely to Iris. We came to Paros once, when you were eight. You ate a whole lemon on a dare and cried for an hour. We are very pleased you are now marrying into the place.

Ree — I am the older sister and so it falls to me to remind you, formally, that you stole my favourite blue dress in 2009 and never returned it. I am letting it go. Wear it under your wedding dress for luck. (Also: Daniel is wonderful. I have approved.)

— Friends · the Paris years
May your courtyard be loud, your lemons plentiful, and your guests too full of moussaka to leave before midnight. We will be the ones still at the table when the second bottle of ouzo appears. Bring it on, our loves.

A marriage is not the wedding day; it is every small Tuesday that comes after — the lemons you pick together, the windows you open together, the silences you keep together. The vows are only the first sentence. Write the rest of the book slowly.

Sofia Marchetti
— Maid of honour · since the Florence year
My darling Iris — twelve years of being your friend has been the most reliable adventure of my life. Daniel makes you steadier, which I previously thought was impossible. I am very honoured to be your maid of honour. I have practised crying so I can do it photogenically. Tantissimi auguri, mia cara.

The Karras Family
— Neighbours · the house next door
From the family next door — we have known Iris since she was the smallest grandchild in the Vasilakis house, eating loquats off the tree without asking. We will be there from dawn, helping to set the tables. Daniel, welcome. You are family now. There will be opinions.
🙏Grateful

— Friends · the rue des Vinaigriers dinners
For the couple we have watched fall in love over four years of dinner parties: thank you for letting us be the test audience. The bouillabaisse experiments. The arguments about salt. The look you give each other when you think no one is watching. You are our favourite love story. Go be magnificent in Greece.

Captain Niko
— Captain · the Naoussa ferry
I will run the boat that brings the guests across from Naoussa. I have polished the brass twice. I will play only one bouzouki record, and only quietly, and only once we are clear of the harbour. After that, I make no promises. Long life to you both.

Yiannis Papadakis
— Family friend, fisherman · Paros
I have known Iris since she was six and trying to fish off the wrong end of my boat. She is, as far as I can tell, no longer trying to fish off the wrong end of anyone's boat. Daniel, this is what we call progress in Paros. Welcome to the harbour. The first ouzo is on me.
